Many of our Regrets are Due to a Lack of Courage

The good news is courage is a skill that can be cultivated

"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage." –Anaïs Nin

Courage has the power to transform us. When we summon courage to face a challenge—whether it’s one we choose or one life places in our path—we discover new depths of strength and uncover more about ourselves. I’ve seen this truth unfold countless times, both in my own life and in the lives of those I coach and guide.

I am constantly inspired by the people I work with. In their pursuit of growth and transformation, they willingly step out of their comfort zones. They embrace vulnerability and demonstrate extraordinary courage, pushing their limits and evolving into more resilient, authentic versions of themselves.

One such remarkable individual is Christen, pictured in this video during her ascent of Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park as part of my Epic Women program. Angel’s Landing is no ordinary hike—it’s a narrow ridge with chains to grip and 1,500-foot drop-offs on either side. The stakes are high, both physically and mentally.

Courage isn’t something we either have or don’t—it’s a skill we can cultivate, a muscle that grows stronger with practice.

Christen didn’t take on Angel’s Landing just for its breathtaking beauty; she did it because she wanted to be the kind of person who would dare to try. Her courageous act wasn’t about being fearless—it was about choosing to move forward in spite of fear.

Her story is a powerful reminder that courage often begins with a simple decision: to embrace discomfort, take a risk, or step into the unknown.

What is something you’ve done recently that required courage?

What are some things you’d like to do in 2025 that will help you to cultivate courage and be more courageous?

Remember, courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s the decision to act in the presence of it. And with every courageous step, your life will expand.

If you’d like to know more about my Epic programs and how you can cultivate courage in a spectacularly beautiful natural setting, please email me at coach@yourepiclife.com. If your organization, team, or friend group is interested in a presentation (in-person or virtually from my historic Wyoming Sheepherder’s wagon on the river), that will inspire you to reflect on your life and motivate you to be more courageous in your life, your relationships, and your leadership, please email me to learn more, or check out this page. THANK YOU!
